Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari – Place to Enlighten Yourself

Whenever I think about Kanyakumari, I just form the picture of the water bodies and the heavy monsoon. However, when I reached Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari, I went back with whole other picture of Kanyakumari. Tourism is a huge industry in this place because of such elegant view. It is covered with water on sideways and backwards leaving just one part open attaching it with land. This is one of the prominent places to visit in Kanyakumari. I was thrilled by watching the waves of the ocean splashing through. As the name suggests it indeed is a place, which left a long-lasting memory.

This holy and peaceful place did calm my soul from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I was so pleased to be here. The ferry service was well-organised which helped me to see the view of this giant place from the ocean point. I enjoyed the view of Trivenisangam, which is the meeting point of three water bodies, Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The statue of Swami Vivekananda is very beautiful and enlightening. I looked at the whole place without any rush, as I made my mind to watch the sunset from this location. I could not get any more peace of mind from anywhere else. It was definitely the only place on earth, which can be enlightening as well as providing the natural show. According to old tales, it is believed that it was on this rock that Goddess Kumari performed austerity.

The memorial comprised of two places, one the Vivekananda Mandapam and other Shripada Mandapam. Both of them had the knowledge of Swami Vivekananda. A tragic loss happened to this place when it was hit by the tsunami of 2004. It did ruin many places inside this memorial. After watching the sunset at Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari, it was time for me to say goodbye to this holy place and start a new journey at Pechiparai Reservoir, which is also situated in Kanyakumari. As the day ended, the journey also came to halt. The new day begins with a new place.
