After a good night’s sleep at our hotel, we were charged up for the next day. We would visit the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Chennai. Wildlife was something that all three of us liked very much. Hence, we were looking forward to this visit. We packed our breakfast and left the hotel early. On our way to the Zoo we had our breakfast. It was a long day and so we had started early. The traffic on the way was minimal. The journey to the zoo took about an hour as the zoo was located on the outskirts of the city. The driver was a friendly old man and he gave us insights about the city of Chennai. It was really helpful to have a driver like him as we had booked that car for the next day as well. The doors of the zoo were just opened when we reached and we were one of the first visitors.
The zoo was really well-maintained and covered a huge area. It is the largest zoological park of India. The park is also said to be a wildlife sanctuary because of the vast natural terrain where the animals were kept. One could not possibly cover the entire length on foot, so we booked tickets for the safari jeep. There were a host of animals of a huge variety of species in the zoo. The park had a good vegetation cover all across the area. The zoo was made in a portion of the reserve forest of Vandular. The natural surroundings of the forest were not tampered with.
We really enjoyed watching the lions and tigers in their enclosures during the safari. They were roaming around majestically in their own areas. The dominative quality of these species was evident from their body language. The reptile park had a wide variety of reptiles, including crocodiles and snakes. They really gave us a thrilling experience. The open walk through aviary of the zoo was one of the main attractions. The tress had a wide variety of birds from different parts of the world inhabiting them. The Arignar Anna Zoological Park Chennai was a treat to watch. Next, we headed to Fort St. George from here.
